DA Opposes Parole for Convicted Serial Rapist Rudolph Martin Acosta

Published on May 15, 2025

Fresno County District Attorney Lisa Smittcamp, Councilwoman Annalisa Perea, Survivor Mirna Garcia, along with other community leaders will hold a press conference urging the California Board of Parole Hearings to deny parole to Rudolph Martin Acosta, a convicted serial rapist who terrorized women in Fresno’s Tower District in 1991.

Acosta, now 59, was sentenced to 78 years in state prison for sexually assaulting at least nine women, ages 16 to 30, while threatening them with a weapon. Despite the violent nature of his crimes, Acosta is eligible for parole under California’s “youthful offender” law because he was 25 at the time of the attacks.

The public is encouraged to submit letters to the California Board of Parole Hearings opposing Acosta’s release. Letters must be received by the Board at least 15 days before the hearing on June 6, 2025.
