Student Intern (Non-Law)

The Fresno County District Attorney’s Office offers volunteer internship programs in the Spring and Summer Semesters for undergraduate students interested in pursuing careers in non-law areas.

Undergraduate Students will be assigned to Public Relations, Business Office or Victim Advocate where they will work closely with their assigned team and learn new specialized skills.

Public Relations - Interns with the Public Relations team will work closely with the Public Information Officer on a variety of duties, including but not limited to:

  • Preparing and distributing press releases and press conferences
  • Monitoring and creating content for social media accounts
  • Responding to inquiries from the media, public, and community organizations
  • Interacting with other governmental and community-based organizations

Business Office - Interns in the Business Office will assist with the following duties:

  • Preparing payment vouchers for county vendors
  • Preparing state mandate reimbursable claims for PC 4750
  • Reconciling accounts payable while tracking County ISD charges
  • Assisting with data entry and year-end inventory
  • Assisting staff with requests for supplies and moving of furniture

Victim Advocate - Interns will work closely with the grant-funded Victim Advocate to assist with the following:

  • Attending court to provide support to victims and witnesses
  • Attending initial meet and greets
  • Calling victims and witnesses to provide case status updates
  • Explaining services and resources available to victims and witnesses

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Must be 18 years or older
  • Must meet professional standards
  • Must consent to and pass a background / criminal history check
  • Must be available to work a minimum of 8 hours per week during normal business hours, Monday - Friday

HOURS

Undergraduate Interns are required to meet a minimum of 16 hours per week.

Interns may complete hours for class credit providing the school requirements for credit do not interfere with the normal conduct of the internship program.

Normal business hours are Monday through Friday 8:00 am to 5:00 pm. Interns may set their own schedules so long as the requirements are met. The schedule set by the intern must be consistent week to week. If an intern is working less than a full day, the blocks of time must be 8:00 am to 12:00 pm or 1:00 pm to 5:00 pm to accommodate court schedules.

Interns are required to commit to the program for a minimum of eight weeks. Additional time in the program is strongly suggested.

All Intern Candidates MUST submit the following documents:

  • Cover Letter
  • Resume
  • Grade Transcripts (unofficial transcripts are acceptable)

Upon receipt and evaluation of the application materials, a panel interview may be scheduled. A phone interview may be scheduled for students attending school out of the county. Deadlines will be strictly adhered to as the Internship Program is often impacted. All offers made to the applicant are contingent on a successful background investigation.

The District Attorney is the principal law enforcement official in Fresno County. Accordingly, District Attorney employees and interns alike are subject to a high standard of ethics and professionalism. An intern's failure to adhere to professional standards of ethics and professionalism will result in termination from the Internship Program.
